Why do you need to take x-rays?

dental x-rays | harleysville pa dentistMany patients have concerns about the necessity and safety of x-rays. We would like to take this opportunity to alleviate those fears and concerns and let you know exactly why x-rays are so important.

Function of X-Rays

First, let's address what we use x-rays for. These images are an important diagnostic tool that allows us to see what's happening in your mouth with your teeth, jawbone, and jaw joints depending on the type of x-ray we're taking. This allows us to detect any concerns such as tooth decay very early on giving you the opportunity to choose treatment procedures that are less complicated. With digital x-rays, Dr. McMaugh can see things that wouldn't be visible during your examination.

Next, let's discuss the safety of digital x-rays. Thanks to advanced technology, we can now utilize digital x-rays which require no chemicals for development and emit 80 percent less radiation than traditional x-rays taken in the past. Not only are these images much safer for our patients, they are also much better for our environment.

Dear Friends, Due to Covid-19, we have made a lot of changes to the office. We have put in new negative pressure rooms with HEPA filters to keep us all safer as well as many other protocols. We are also slowly catching up on our hygiene appointments. Having just opened up for hygiene the beginning of July, and new protocols, it will take us a while, though. Thank you for your patience during these trying times.
Please stay safe and call us if you have any dental issues or questions.  Take care.
