The Benefits of Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric Dentistry | Harleysville PA

Giving your child the gift of optimum oral health is something that will last and benefit them for a lifetime. By teaching them the importance of their oral health, and providing them with positive experiences at the dentist, you're setting them up for lifetime of success in their future dental appointments. Dr. William T. McMaugh understands how critical these initial visits are for your child, and for this reason we focus on offering exceptional pediatric dentistry in Harleysville.

When Should My Child's First Visit Be?

Dr. McMaugh likes to see children for their first dental visits around the age of three years old. Of course, if you have questions or concerns about your child's development early on we encourage you to call us. We spend our first few visits with your child getting to know them, helping them acclimate to our office and the "big chair," and the dental instruments we use. We won't proceed with any types of treatment until your child feels absolutely comfortable. These early visits also allow Dr. McMaugh to monitor your child's dental development and make you aware of any concerns there might be early on.

Additional Services For Children

As your child gets older, Dr. McMaugh may recommend some additional services such fluoride treatments or dental sealants to help protect your child's oral health. Fluoride treatments help to strengthen and build small teeth, as fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that can rebuild damaged tooth enamel. Dental sealants are a protective coating that covers the chewing surface of your child's molars to keep tooth decay and cavities at bay. Dr. McMaugh can also discuss the necessity and benefits of orthodontic treatment with you should your child need their teeth aligned or their bite corrected.

We look forward to welcoming your child to our dental family, and we encourage you to contact us today to schedule your next appointment.
