Can Your Child Benefit from Sealants or Supplemental Fluoride?

Siblings Smiling

Do you worry about your child’s oral health and wonder how you can help them achieve a healthy smile that lasts a lifetime?

Regular cleanings and exams help keep track of the condition of your child’s teeth and identify small problems before they grow and threaten their oral health. But wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to avoid them having any dental problems?

Fluoride Applications

Fluoride is essential for protecting your child’s healthy teeth from decay and is available through many sources. You will find fluoride in toothpaste, mouthwash, non-bottled drinking water, and foods like fresh vegetables.

So, in most cases, your child may already get enough fluoride. However, if they are not, fluoride applications and rinses will help ensure that their teeth are adequately protected. We can apply fluoride to your child’s teeth here at our office, and we may also recommend fluoride rinses to be used at home.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are another preventive treatment that we use to protect the surfaces of your child's teeth from decay. Sealants are a coating of plastic that is brushed on your teeth and cured and hardened to form a protective barrier.

Sealants are used on teeth with a lot of grooves and spaces where decay often starts, such as molars and pre-molars. We can apply sealants to baby teeth if needed to protect them until they are ready to come out and make way for permanent teeth. Older children who have cavity-prone permanent teeth are also good candidates for dental sealants.
